To get the skinny on Hong Kong’s food scene we bought a Time Out Food Edition hoping that it would steer us in the direction of innovative food. We found Mana! a fast slow food concept by Hong Kong’s ‘ecopreneur’ Bobsy, the man behind Bookworm Café on Lamma Island and Life Café in Soho. Along with his business partner, Christian G. Mongendre, also a French-trained chef, they have created a healthy eating, eco-conscious joint featuring reclaimed wooden furniture, water saving loos, rough concrete walls, Buddha statues, raw cakes and various mantras set into the floor. The food they’re serving is a relatively new idea in HK; raw, vegetarian, healthy and eco-friendly. With every second shop selling MSG laden noodles, rice and meat dishes it’s a breath of fresh air to come across something like this. And healthy food can’t be bad, right?
